Florence + the Machine drops intriguing new tune ‘Big God’
Florence + the Machine is in full preparation mode for the release of their fourth album High As Hope. The album comes out on the 29th of June and after introduction to the area ‘Sky Full of Song’ and proper first single ‘Hunger’ they continued to premiere some songs in a live setting. Now it is time for the next single! Florence and her team decided to go with ‘Big God’, a track she wrote together with producer Jamie xx.

‘Big God’ is an intense and intriguing song that starts out as a dark piano ballad with Florence’s mighty vocals as an ominous force. She delivers some of her more straightforward lyrical work here talking about heartbreak and unrequited love: “Sometimes I think it’s gettin’ better and then it gets much worse. Is it just part of the process? Well, Jesus Christ, it hurts!” The build up of the track is an event in itself! The instrumental bridge over which Florence is harmonizing is breathtaking and in the last verse she kicks it up another notch both lyrically and vocally, sometimes channeling her inner Kate Bush. This is the strongest track of the era so far if you ask me!

Update: The stunning ‘waterography’ video is out now too!
