Demi Lovato opens up about addiction on new single
Does Demi Lovato ever rest!? After she dropped Tell Me You Love Me, her most recent album (and her best according to A Bit of Pop Music) in the fall of last year, she did a long string of collaborations ever since. She had one of the biggest hits of her career with Luis Fonsi, appeared on tracks by Jax Jones and Cheat Codes, and more recently worked with Clean Bandit on the addictive ‘Solo’ and with Christina Aguilera on the empowering ‘Fall In Line’. Now she is already kicking off the next era in her career with a brand new track; ‘Sober’.
Listening to ‘Sober’ you come to the rather unsettling conclusion that behind the success and outside of the spotlights, Lovato is struggling with addiction again. People who have followed her career, know that she became famous at a young age and has experienced some dark periods growing up. She now admits to the world that she is experiencing addiction relapse in a emotionally heavy, stripped back ballad with brutally honest lyrics. She apologizes to her parents, friends and even her fans. “I’m sorry for the fans I lost, who watched me fall again. I wanna be a role model, but I’m only human”, she confesses. At the end of the track she concludes: “I promise I’ll get help. It wasn’t my intention, I’m sorry to myself.” We hope Demi finds the help she needs and helps people who are dealing with the same problems by knowing that they are not alone. Releasing a song with so much personal meaning, sure is a mighty brave thing to do!
