Little Mix and Cheat Codes join forces on future hit
British girlband Little Mix and American electronic music trio Cheat Codes decided to join forces for a potential summer hit! The guys of Cheat Codes had their biggest hit so far with ‘No Promises’, their collaboration with Demi Lovato. At the same time, the Little Mix ladies were conquering the world with ‘Reggaetón Lento’, a duet with latin boyband CNCO. They clearly hope to repeat these successes with the brand new ‘Only You’, while following the same format as a recent hit by another British pop star.
I am pretty sure it is not just me, when I say that ‘Only You’ reminds me a lot of Rita Ora’s international hit ‘Anywhere’. While ‘Anywhere’ sure was not the first within its genre, the acoustic elements, the big singalong chorus and the infectious electronic breakdown that follows on ‘Only You’ all sound inspired by said Rita Ora hit. I am not talking plagiarism here, as the melody and composition are distinctly different, but it just seems like they used the same template. To be fair, ‘Anywhere’ is a perfect pop song to take inspiration from, so no worries there! Actually, ‘Only You’ has a lot of potential to become a hit in its own right. The youthful lyrics about longing for a past relationship are relatable and the summery vibe comes at exactly the right time of the year. The hook is undeniable and the production flawless. ‘Only You’ is that generic bop we could all use on a warm summer evening!
