Nina Nesbitt serves noughties R&B on new single ‘Loyal To Me’
Nina Nesbitt has tried out quite a few different musical styles for her young age. The 24-year-old pop star started out with folky singer-songwriter tunes, until she moved on to bigger guitar pop tracks. She dipped her toe into electronic pop music with tracks like ‘Chewing Gum’ and is now ready to try out yet another genre. After releasing a long string of singles including ‘The Best You Had’, ‘The Moments I’m Missing’ and ‘Somebody Special’, Nesbitt now drops ‘Loyal To Me’, an ode to the delicious R&B of the late 90s and early noughties.

In Nina’s very own commentary on the track on Spotify, she explains how she wanted to play around with that specific R&B sound and she initially wrote the tune with a girl band like Little Mix in mind. In the end she decided that she liked the track too much to give it away and she was totally right about that. Although this slick and soulful R&B sound might not be the first thing you pictured for her, she pulls it off so well! She flawlessly captured the spirit of that specific sound in that era and made it her own. That chorus is so damn catchy, it actually sounds like a track that was a worldwide hit in 2001! Nesbitt wrote the song about a friend who was dating a ‘f*ckboy’, advising her to stay away from him if she has her doubts. “If you have to question ‘is he loyal to me?’, well then he’s probably not, and you should probably leave”, she sings over the main hook and she’s damn right about that. Sing it girl!
