Single Review: Janet Jackson – Made For Now (feat. Daddy Yankee)

Janet Jackson sounds fresh and inspired on new single
Janet Jackson made a comeback in 2015 when she released the album Unbreakable with lead single ‘No Sleeep’. The pop icon mainly focused on sultry R&B, but is ready to return to the dancefloor with a proper bop. Miss Jackson worked with Daddy Yankee on the single ‘Made For Now’, produced by Harmony Samuels and she seems to be ready to set the charts on fire once more!

On ‘Made For Now’, Jackson sounds more uptempo than she has done in a long while. She mixes pop with afrobeat and some hints of reggaeton, latin and dancehall. Needless to say that the track swings and then some. The rhythm is contagious and makes it almost impossible to sit still while listening. Lyrically ‘Made For Now’ is all about living in the moment, while at the same time encouraging us all to reach for the stars. This is all well captured in an uplifting video full of colours and choreography. Janet Jackson and her team managed to create a track that transcends genre boundaries and sounds contemporary while not imitating a single trend that is going on right now. Judging by the first response to the track, Jackson might actually have a hit on her hands. Either way it is great to see her having so much fun making music again, like in the flawless performance her and Yankee did at the Jimmy Fallon’s Tonight Show. An icon returned!
