Dolly Parton duets with Sia on soundtrack of Dumplin’
Dolly Parton keeps up with the pop stars of today. After doing duets on the most recent albums of both Miley Cyrus and Kesha, the country legend took on the job of providing the music for the upcoming movie Dumplin’, which will be released on Netflix. Parton was asked to do the soundtrack for the movie as the story’s main character is a huge fan of the singer. She will share six new tracks which she wrote with Linda Perry, as well as new versions of some of her previously released songs. She took her 1971 track ‘Here I Am’ and turned it into a duet with the Australian super star Sia!
For Sia it is the next track in a long string of soundtracks she has done in the past few years (for movies like Fifty Shades of Grey, Annie, Finding Dory, Lion, San Andreas and even My Little Pony). It is the first time she does not sing her own (co-)composition for a movie, but her vocals work surprisingly well on Dolly Parton’s country pop. The 2018 version of ‘Here I Am’ starts out as more of a piano ballad and only halfway through serves some country twang. Both ladies belt it out big time towards the end, making for a proper climax. It is great to see Dolly Parton still has got what it takes and we love the fact that she enjoys working with the current generation of pop stars!
