Zara Larsson returns with new single ‘Ruin My Life’
Zara Larsson is back! The Swedish pop star had her big break in 2015 when her single ‘Lush Life’ became an international monster hit. She had a successful string of singles with follow-ups ‘Never Forget You’ featuring MNEK and ‘Ain’t My Fault’, but after that she slightly struggled to keep up the momentum. Her international debut album So Good was released early 2017, almost two years after the hit that changed her career, and although it might be a bit dramatic to call it a total flop, both in terms of content and commercial performance, expectations were not met. After over a year of radio silence, Zara Larsson is back with the brand new single ‘Ruin My Life’.

‘Ruin My Life’ is a contemporary sounding midtempo pop tune with stripped back verses and a well flowing build up to the chorus. Larsson turns up the pace in her delivery of the chorus, sharing how she wants a lover to ‘ruin her life and f**k up her nights’. The track is definitely a grower and the less intrusive kind of ear worm that takes over your consciousness only after a few listens. At the same time I have to admit that I don’t think this will cut it as Zara Larsson’s comeback single. The general public will just know her because of a handful successful singles, that are not even fresh in their minds. With that in mind, ‘Ruin My Life’ is simply not memorable or unique enough to put Zara back on the map. Decent album track? Sure thing. Big comeback single? Not so much…
