Zayn continues endless string of singles with ‘Fingers’
It is hard to keep up with Zayn these days. Every few weeks he drops a new single without any promotion and every release seems to be disappear into oblivion quicker than its predecessor. This is not to say that they are all bad tracks, because both ‘Let Me’ and ‘Entertainer’ turned out to be growers. The question however remains what he is playing at with randomly dropping tunes without any sight of a sophomore album. Either way, about two months after the Timbaland produced ‘Too Much’, we get to enjoy the latest addition to the endless tring of singles; ‘Fingers’.
Like most of its predecessors, ‘Fingers’ is a contemporary R&B tune. This one is a bit more of a slowjam than most of his previous work. Saltwives took care of the simple but effective production while Zayn croons his way over the laidback melody, speaking of a heartbreak that is so numbing that he can’t even use his fingers to text anymore. His diction seems to get lazier with every track though, so it is hard to make out what he is actually singing. Although the track flows well, it does lack a proper hook, slimming the chances of this becoming the hit Zayn seems to need at the moment. It is debatable if that is even what his team is going for at this stage, randomly chucking out tunes, seemingly without a plan.
