Single Review: Cher Lloyd – None Of My Business

Cher Lloyd None of My Business

Cher Lloyd dives into noughties R&B on new single
It feels like a lifetime ago that Cher Lloyd had her big break on the X Factor UK. She auditioned successfully back in 2010 and reached the final stages of the show, after which she made a big impact internationally with her single ‘Want U Back’. After a couple more moderate hits, things got quiet around her, except for a one off track released in 2016. Lloyd is ready for a fresh start with comeback single ‘None Of My Business’ that will hopefully lead into a new album too!

Now I will be really honest for just a moment and say I did not expect that Cher Lloyd would win me over again after this long period of hardly any news from her, but ‘None Of My Business’ is a bop! She does not stray away too far from the mix of pop and R&B she initially rose to fame with, but it all sounds way more natural this time around. Lloyd and her team don’t try as hard to sound like whatever is on trend, but decided to go with an early noughties R&B vibe she must really enjoy herself. This sounds like it could have been a single by Blu Cantrell from 2003 and we all know that means it is a great tune! The track opens with its chorus straight away and although this seems a less used practice these days, the flawless hook grabs your attention immediately and won’t let go for the three minutes that follow.

Lyrically the track is pretty clever too! Cher sings about her ex-boyfriend who is having trouble with his new girlfriend. She tries to make it sound like she does not care and is not jealous, but the rest of the lyrics playfully admit that she actually does. You can’t fool us, Cher! ‘None Of My Business’ is the absolute bop I did not know I needed from Cher Lloyd in 2018!
