Single Review: Major Lazer & Tove Lo – Blow That Smoke

Major Lazer Tove Lo Blow That Smoke

Major Lazer and Tove Lo drop long awaited collaboration
Major Lazer announced that their next album, scheduled for some time in 2019, might be their last. Diplo will focus more on his other projects, including Silk City with Mark Ronson and LSD with Sia and Labrinth. Recently they have experimented with African rhythms, working with several African artists. They now take these influences on board for their brand new pop track ‘Blow That Smoke’, featuring Swedish pop star Tove Lo.

‘Blow That Smoke’ is the first new release by Tove Lo since she dropped her record Blue Lips just under a year ago and the remix for her song ‘Bitches’ earlier this year. The summery afropop track is completely different from the icy electro pop she excels at, but her vocals sound surprisingly warm and uplifting here! The production swings from start to finish and the chorus is an earworm! The only thing that could have been handled better if you ask me, is the release date. This would have thrived on a late spring or early summer release, giving it room to become a sleeper hit over summer. Questionable timing aside, ‘Blow That Smoke’ is a perfectly enjoyable collaboration that sounds refreshing for both acts involved.
