Clean Bandit drops new tune with Marina and the Diamonds and Luis Fonsi
Clean Bandit is currently laying out one of the longest album campaigns in the history of album campaigns. Back in May 2016 they dropped the single ‘Tears’ featuring Louisa Johnson and they now finally announced that their second album What Is Love? will be out on the 30th of November. In those two and a half years they dropped hit collaborations with Anne-Marie & Sean Paul, Zara Larsson, Julia Michaels and most recently Demi Lovato. Today they share the track that is going to lead into the album release; ‘Baby’ featuring Marina and the Diamonds and Luis Fonsi.

For Marina it is not the first collaboration with the British formation. Last year they dropped the track ‘Disconnect’ together, which did not make the album. The two Clean Bandit tunes are the only thing we have heard from the Welsh-Greek pop artist since the release of her 2015 album Froot. Now ‘Baby’ might well become the biggest hit of her career so far (and the next one in an impressive line of successful singles for Clean Bandit). The track has all the ingredients for international success. ‘Baby’ heavily flirts with latin pop trends, mixing beats with sunny guitar riffs and Marina’s stand out signature vocals. She perfectly conveys the melancholic longing to a past summer lover, while being in a more steady, but also less exciting relationship with someone else. Marina and her secret lover will have their last dance, because she now is ‘someone else’s baby’.

It is almost needless to say with Clean Bandit and Marina working together, but ‘Baby’ is such an insanely catchy tune. Not only the post chorus, but every single part of the track offers strong vocal hooks. ‘Despacito’ hit maker Luis Fonsi adds a Spanish verse and rap-sings over Marina’s main hook. The combination of the two pop stars was never one that would have come to my mind, but Clean Bandit made it happen. The result is a swinging, bittersweet latin pop anthem that should help us through the winter!

Update: the video is out too and it shows Clean Bandit’s Grace in a bisexual love triangle. Secretly Marina is actually the star of the video with a cute choreography scene.
