Little Mix takes more risks on new track ‘Joan of Arc’
Little Mix are about to launch their fifth album, appropriately titled LM5, on the 16th of November. The British girl band dropped the serviceable, but predictable lead single ‘Woman Like Me’ last month and now share a second track from the record, titled ‘Joan of Arc’ (or third if you want to count the Cheat Codes collaboration they chucked on the deluxe edition). Luckily the girls dare to take a few risks on this new track, that sounds less tailormade to please the radio listening general public. The girls sound more confident than ever when name dropping powerful historic women (Joan of Arc and Cleopatra) and rap-singing lines like: “Fanning myself, I’m stanning myself, I love me so much, can’t keep my hands of myself”. Lyrically the track is a combination of BeyoncĂ© and Nicki Minaj’s ‘Feeling Myself’ and Destiny’s Child’s ‘Independent Women, part I’, while their sound is more inspired by banging hiphop beats. The pre-chorus still serves a major hook for us proper pop lovers so no complaints there either. ‘Joan of Arc’ might not be suitable as next single, but as a taste maker for their upcoming album it at least got me more excited!
