Jax Jones and Years & Years bop together on new single ‘Play’
Jax Jones is putting out one star collaboration after another. He had his first massive hit with Raye on the track ‘You Don’t Know Me’ and followed up with successful tracks featuring Demi Lovato, Ina Wroldsen and most recently Mabel. Next up is Years & Years on his new track ‘Play’. The British synth pop trio already had a pretty sweet year with the successful launch of their boptastic sophomore album Palo Santo. So on paper a Jax Jones and Years & Years track sounds like a sure fire hit right? Well… the actual song does too!
Jax Jones is known to take elements from house, EDM, electro pop and even disco to create the catchiest of pop tunes and that is exactly what he did on ‘Play’. Years & Years expanded their sonic universe beyond just synth pop on their latest album too and it is impressive how well ‘Play’ fits into both acts’ discographies. Olly’s easily recognizable vocals soar over the light electronic production and insanely catchy repetitions in the chorus. In the lyrics Olly begs his lover to ‘play me the song that will make me belong to you’. They sure played us the song that belongs to the top of the charts!
Update: Jax Jones and Years & Years premiered the video for ‘Play’ in which their ‘mini me’s’ dance on a conveyor belt in a grocery store. Their enthusiasm is contagious. A fun watch from start to finish!
