Friday’s Five Tunes with Janet Devlin

Always wondered what pop artists themselves listen to whenever they are not on stage or writing new music? It’s time to find out! A Bit of Pop Music brings you Friday’s Five Tunes, a selection of five favourite songs by a current pop artist. This week, Janet Devlin shares her love for five of her all-time favourites with us.

Janet Devlin is a singer-songwriter from Ireland who had her big break participating in X Factor UK, back in 2011. After the show she decided to follow her own path, releasing an album through Pledge Music. She continued with a couple of EPs and a single here and there. Earlier this month she made a glorious return with the moving, honest and extremely personal piano ballad ‘I Lied To You’. Now she tells us all about some of the songs she loves the most!

JC Stewart – Medicine
“I love a good punch in the feels! This one always gets me. It’s both epic and emotional. Also he’s from Northern Ireland so I’ve got to support my own!”

Claude Debussy – Suite Bergamasque
“I’ve nothing more to say than this suite is simply a masterpiece. I don’t know how many times I’ve listened to this but its beauty never fades. It’s my go-to piece when I’m stressed.”

Lenny Kravitz – Are You Gonna Go My Way
“The ultimate gym song! If I’m ever feeling de-motivated or lacking in self-esteem, this is the song I put on. You can’t not feel somewhat badass with this in your earholes!”

Chris Stapleton – Tennessee Whiskey
“The voice of a God and the song-writing skills to match! For me, this track is my favourite wind-down on a Friday night. I dare you to listen to this country cracker without closing your eyes and nodding along.”

Don McLean – Vincent
“Of all the music I’ve listened to in my life, I don’t think any other song can match the lyrical masterpiece that is ‘Vincent’. A song that is still relevant today, with depression still being a somewhat taboo topic. If you’re in the mood for a good cry, then play this classic!”

That was quite the emotional rollercoaster Janet, thanks for sharing your love for these tracks with us! For everyone who would like another punch in the the feels, make sure you check out Janet’s stunning ‘I Lied To You’.
