Single Review: Fleur East – Favourite Thing

Fleur East finally back with new bop ‘Favourite Thing’
It feels like ages ago that Fleur East stormed the British charts with the trendy bop ‘Sax’. The track became an international hit at the end of 2015 after East reached a bigger audience thanks to finishing as the runner-up during X Factor UK the year before. The vocal powerhouse launched an album, but another hit never happened. Until now that is if 2019 will start out with serving some pop justice. Her new single ‘Favourite Thing’, the first taken from her upcoming sophomore album and released under label Hunter Corps, is an absolute bop!

Fleur East’s debut single and album were mostly riding the wave of the trend that Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars started with their collaboration ‘Uptown Funk’, so for this comeback she needed to carve out a sound of her own. She mostly left the saxophones behind and seems to be inspired by afrobeat this time around. East explains that she was influenced by the Ghanaian roots of her mother’s side of the family for the creation of her new tune. The result is a heavily upbeat track with insanely catchy chanting in the chorus. The lyrics are all about a lover whose body is Fleur’s new ‘Favourite Thing’. Miss East found a sound of her own and so deserves a hit with this banger!
