Maren Morris returns with new single ‘GIRL’
Maren Morris is back with new material! Her brand new single ‘GIRL’ is her first fresh solo material after her career took a flight with the hugely successful collaboration with producer Zedd, ‘The Middle’. Morris released her first major label studio album back in 2016, titled Hero with the successful lead single ‘My Church’. The country and pop star is ready for a new chapter in her career and the new track ‘GIRL’ was announced as the first single of her upcoming sophomore album, while she will also kick off the Girl World TourĀ in Spring.
It is always interesting to see how the comeback solo material will play out when an artist just had massive success with a collaboration that was not necessarily within their own sound. Morris was initially pushed into the country genre, but repeated in interviews that she wants to incorporate different genres. ‘GIRL’, co-written and co-produced by Greg Kurstin (Sia, Adele) and Sarah Aarons (who also co-wrote ‘The Middle’), is a midtempo pop track with some subtle country influences and heavy use of electric guitar. The chorus has some big singalong potential and the message of support towards other girls, both in the industry and in life in general, is heartwarming. Maren Morris is off to a good start with the always critical sophomore album campaign!
