Billie Eilish announces album and drops title track
After a big year in 2018, Billie Eilish shows no sign of slowing down. The American teenager known for hit singles like ‘Lovely’, ‘Bellyache’ and ‘When The Party’s Over’ kicked off 2019 with the new track ‘When I Was Older’, inspired by the movie Roma. She now announced her debut album When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go (which will be released on the 29th of March) and just dropped the track ‘Bury A Friend’, which was the inspiration for the album title. The track opens with a pulsing beat and is easily one of the more electronic and experimental tracks she has released so far. The autotune during the actually very strong main hook makes her vocals sound even more haunting than usual and the sound effects in the verses add to dark and creepy vibe going on. At least the album artwork is fitting then! The lyrics are just as dark with Billie asking the subject in the song why the person is not scared of her or runs from her. In the climax she talks about burying a friend while repeating the line ‘I wanna end me’.

The music video seems to be inspired by Billie’s love for horror movies, which fits the sonic world she created perfectly. The somewhat disturbing footage could almost be used as the leader for the next season of American Horror Story. We see Billie watch a male from the side of his bed, while she floats through the hallway and is grabbed by multiple hands in black gloves, only to end up with multiple needles in her back. Eeeeeek!
