Anna of the North returns with new single ‘Leaning On Myself’
Anna of the North first appeared on our radar when she released the brilliant pop single ‘The Dreamer’ back in 2015. A Bit of Pop Music named her the most promising new arist for 2016, but it wasn’t until 2017 that Anna Lotterud released her debut album Lovers. Around the same time, she also appeared on Tyler, The Creator’s album Flower Boy. After collaborations with Honne and Rejjie Snow and a cover of ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’, Anna of the North is now back with new solo music. The first single taken from her sophomore project is titled ‘Leaning On Myself’ and it is out now.

Anna of the North has replaced the dreamy synth pop of her debut with a slightly darker, more bass heavy sound with prominent guitar riffs. The pace is slower, but Anna herself sounds just as captivating as before. ‘Leaning On Myself’ might not be as instantly catchy as her previous work, but the hypnotic melody does stay with you after a couple of spins. In the lyrics, Anna describes how she does not really see her friends anymore after ending a relationship, having to rely on just herself. In the video, which she premiered at the same time as the song, we see Anna with angel wings in different settings, but always alone. Even in the taxi, while she is in the backseat! If you don’t count the goats she comes across of course!
