Years & Years and MNEK release collaboration on Valentine’s Day
While most artists use Valentine’s Day as an opportunity to release their most romantic work, the guys of Years & Years go for a different approach. The British synth pop band releases their new single ‘Valentino’, a collaboration with producer and recording artist MNEK. Let’s just say that ‘Valentino’ isn’t exactly a romantic song. The upbeat synth pop tune with a sunny guitar loop throughout is actually about a not to be trusted dude called Valentino who played with both Olly’s and MNEK’s heart. “I should have known not to trust Valentino, tonight I’m saying goodbye Valentino”, both vocalists sing as they try to convince themselves to let go of this toxic but oh so charming lover. It was about time that Years & Years and MNEK did a proper collaboration and ‘Valentino’ sure does not disappoint. As expected, it is as upbeat and catchy as could be. We will be bopping to this long after Valentine’s Day, especially when the weather starts to warm up again!
In the video, MNEK and Olly have a go at all things Valentine’s Day. Roses are torn apart, teddy bears are left for dead in the snow. We could not have asked for a better, more playful visual for this song!
