Adam Lambert returns with soulful ballad ‘Feel Something’
Adam Lambert is ready for a fresh new start in his career. The American pop star released his most recent album The Original High back in 2015. After dropping a couple of one off singles in 2016 and 2017, the singer went through a dark phase and decided to completely shake things up to find back his passion for music outside of the industry. He is now with indepedent label EMPIRE, which will release his upcoming album. He wrote and recorded the LP in between the gigs in his busy schedule as frontman of Queen. On social media Lambert explained that ‘Feel Something’ is not the lead single of the upcoming album, but just a treat for fans to enjoy while waiting for the proper roll out of the campaign.
In his social media post, Lambert explained how writing ‘Feel Something’ was a turning point after second guessing himself in his career and feeling lost in his personal life. “Between frustrations with my career and many lost connections, I felt numb—and though I wanted to fall in love, I knew I wasn’t ready. That’s what inspired me to cry out, “I don’t need to feel love, I just want to feel something!” It was in this realization that I took my first step toward self-care and nursing my spirit back to health. This song is the emotional starting point of my new album”, he wrote.
‘Feel Something’ is a proper ballad with a soulful vibe. Of course Lambert belts for his life, while also being joined by a gospel choir. The lyrics are moving and it is not hard to hear that he is actually opening up on this tune, pouring out his heart. I think he made the right decision to release this as a first taste instead of the lead single, as the chorus lacks an instant melody that would have made it into a radio success. Consider me perched for this new era either way!
I loved The Original High album, I’d never been a fan of his music before but that got me hooked.
