Tulisa returns with new single ‘Daddy’
It has been a while since we heard anything from Tulisa. The British-Greek singer had her breakthrough as part of the group N-Dubz and launched her solo career while being a judge on The X Factor UK. Her debut single ‘Young’ became a number 1 hit, but her chart success faded quickly after that. She released her debut album The Female Boss in 2012 and returned in 2014 with the 90s house inspired ‘Living Without You’. In 2016 a cover of ‘Sweet Like Chocolate’ followed, but that was about it. Now she is back with a new single titled ‘Daddy’.

I don’t think a lot of people had high expectations from a Tulisa comeback in 2019, but it has to be said that ‘Daddy’ is a bop! After doing R&B, dance pop and hiphop, she now tries out pop with a dancehall twist. The rhythm is laidback with a light and breezy production. The lower register of Tulisa’s vocals sounds sultry and her delivery of the sensual lyrics is on point. Of course the chances of her having a chart hit in 2019 are low, but ‘Daddy’ is not undeserving of some radio play. Whatever happens (or does not happen) with this track, it probably is Tulisa’s best work since ‘Young’.
