Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber team up on new single ‘I Don’t Care’
Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber are two of the most successful international pop stars of the past few years. They joined forces before when Sheeran co-wrote Bieber’s hit ‘Love Yourself’. The British singer-songwriter even provided backing vocals on the guitar driven tune. He also co-wrote Bieber’s Major Lazer collaboration ‘Cold Water’. They started teasing another collaboration earlier this week and now it turns out they recorded a proper duet, titled ‘I Don’t Care’. For Sheeran it is his first new work after he appeared as a guest vocalist on the most recent albums of Taylor Swift, Eminem and Andrea Bocelli. We did not hear any new music from Bieber after his collaborations with DJ Khaled, Poo Bear and David Guetta. No doubt that ‘I Don’t Care’ is going to be a massive hit!

Sheeran and Bieber wrote ‘I Don’t Care’ together with hit producer Max Martin, Jason Boyd, Shellback and Fred Gibson, while Martin, Shellback and Gibson also signed for the production. The track has a swinging rhythm with a fast paced delivery of the lyrics from both guys. Sonically it is vaguely similar to Sheeran’s monster hit ‘Shape Of You’. It is Sheeran at his poppiest and the sound fits Bieber’s smooth vocals like a glove. The chorus is servicable and definitely catchy after a few listens, but at the same time there is not a lot happening in the track. The lyrics about wanting to escape a party to be with the one you love are quite predictable and the track does not really evolve or experience a climax. ‘I Don’t Care’ is sure catchy enough to become a big hit, but it is a rather safe bet from both guys.
