HAIM kicks off new era with track ‘Summer Girl’
The sisters HAIM are back! The last time we heard from them, was when they dropped their sophomore album Something To Tell You in the summer of 2017. Now, two years later, they are ready to kick off a brand new campaign. A third album should not be far away anymore as the first single is finally here. Danielle, Alana and Este teamed up with producer Ariel Rechtshaid (who happens to be Danielle’s partner too) again and came up with the understated summer anthem ‘Summer Girl’.
When HAIM worked on their second album, they had to stop the recording sessions for a while as Rechtshaid was diagnosed with cancer. Danielle wrote a song about how she tried to be the light in his life at that challenging time and the result is ‘Summer Girl’. The track is less upbeat and driven on poppy melodies than their earlier work, but there is something captivating about it. Danielle takes the lead with light and warm vocals, while the drum and saxophone heavy production creates a breezy atmosphere. Lou Reed was cited as an inspiration for the track and receives a writing credit too as his ‘Walk On The Wild Side’ is sampled. This is not exactly radio hit material, but it is a beautiful comeback track that suggests they might be heading in a fresh direction.
