Ariana Grande and support act Social House drop new single ‘Boyfriend’
Ariana Grande keeps on going with her new release strategy. After serving us two albums is barely half a year, she decided she wanted to put out songs whenever she feels like it, instead of going with traditional album cycles. She dropped the album Thank U, Next in February and already returned in April with the Victoria Monét collaboration ‘Monopoly’. We now get her second single since the album with Social House collab ‘Boyfriend’.
The pop and R&B duo Social House worked with Grande before on her music and is one of the supporting acts on her Sweetener world tour. They recorded an instantly catchy pop tune with some old school R&B vibes going on. In terms of production and melody progress, it does remind us of Grande’s worldwide hit ‘Thank U, Next’. One could wonder what a track like this actually adds to her discography at this stage, as it does not bring anything new to the table. At the same time, it is an infectious and fun little bop with an undeniably strong chorus and relatable lyrics from two people who do not want to admit they would like to be a couple, but still hate it to see the other person with someone else.
In the video, we see Ariana deal with these feelings in a rather aggressive manner. Only in her mind though!
