Ava Max treats fans to two brand new tunes
Ava Max kicked off the year with huge success for her official debut single ‘Sweet But Psycho’. The straight up pop tune became a hit all around the world. The similar sounding follow up ‘So Am I’ was launched a couple of months later and proved itself to be a worthy follow up in terms of chart success. The American pop star with Albanian roots is supposed to release her debut album later this year and while we wait she offers us two brand new tracks, titled ‘Freaking Me Out’ and ‘Blood, Sweat & Tears’. These are apparently not to be treated as third and fourth official singles, but more like promo snacks in between.

In comparison to the first two hits, the new tunes are slightly less uptempo and playful. ‘Freaking Me Out’ (the one pushed on Spotify’s New Music Friday playlists) has the strongest chorus of the two with an insanely catchy hook that fully settles after it comes around a couple of times. In the lyrics, the pop star paints a creepy scene in which rocking chairs are moving by themselves, pointing out how much it is freaking her out that she fell in love. Nothing about this track is particularly groundbreaking or original, but it perfects its predictable sound. A tune and a half! ‘Blood Sweat & Tears’ might be the track with the slightly more interesting and dynamic production and vocal delivery, but it does lack a melody as strong as what ‘Freaking Me Out’ has to offer. Both tunes however would be more than serviceable album tracks.
