Normani serves a big pop star moment with ‘Motivation’
When the girls of Fifth Harmony announced their break, expectations were high for their solo careers. Normani so far had success with collaborations with Sam Smith, Khalid, 6lack and Calvin Harris, but she did not properly shine on her own yet. Well, until today that is, because her new single ‘Motivation’ sure is her first big pop star moment. The track is co-written by Normani herself with the help of Ariana Grande, Max Martin, Savan Kotecha and ILYA, who also produced the tune. ‘Motivation’ is a swinging, upbeat, feel good R&B tune in a style that peaked in the noughties, but of which we could use more these days. The chorus is instantly catchy and the trumpets in the middle-eight are what we call a finishing touch.
Now the song is an absolute bop, but the music video takes the experience to a whole other level. This is Normani serving pop star looks and some of the best choreography I have seen in a pop video in a long while. She seems to be paying subtle tribute to Beyoncé’s ‘Crazy In Love’ and this video could actually be a similar moment in her career. She is completely captivating on stage and her dancing skills are insane. There is some playful stuff in the video going on too with cartwheels and basketballs and that scene in the rain is everything! This is Normani showing that Camila Cabello is definitely not the only solo star coming out of Fifth Harmony.
