Charli XCX duets with Sky Ferreira on latest Charli album take
Charli XCX is dropping her third album Charli on the 13th of September, following a long string of singles, EPs and mixtapes. The album consists mostly of collaborations, of which the ones with Lizzo, Christine and the Queens and Troye Sivan dropped yet. Next up is the track with Sky Ferreira. This pop artist was one of the most promising new stars in the early 2010s, but has only released only one album so far. A second one is due later this year though, as Ferreira finally returned with new single ‘Downhill Lullaby’ recently. Their duet ‘Cross You Out’ is an interesting move for both acts.
The track could best be described as a both 80s infused and slightly futuristic midtempo pop. The production is heavily electronic and almost sounds like it could be the theme music of Netflix series Stranger Things. Their vocals are quite heavily altered, which suits the electronic sound and makes them blend well together, almost to a point where it is hard to tell them apart. Charli explained on social media how the lyrics are about leaving some traumatic people in her life behind. This is such a big tune in every single way that it is hard to picture it not to be one of the highlights on Charli. Having said that, the tracks she dropped so far have all been pretty stellar…
