Ariana, Miley and Lana team up for Charlie’s Angels soundtrack
Sixteen years after the last Charlie’s Angels movie, it was about time for a new one. With three new actresses playing the angels, we also needed three ladies to take over the soundtrack duties from Beyoncé, Kelly and Michelle. We get a super girlgroup consisting of Ariana Grande, Miley Cyrus and Lana Del Rey this time. Ariana and Lana both released an album earlier this year, while Miley Cyrus is currently building one with a handful of EPs. Together they recorded the tune ‘Don’t Call Me Angel’.
Their collaborative single is an uptempo pop tune with an infectious sample in the production that runs through the whole track. It makes the chorus even more catchy than it already was. Vocally, Ariana takes the lead on the choruses as well as the second verse, while Miley brings a whole lot of attitude to the first verse. Things naturally slow down during the middle-eight where Lana does what she does best, but not with any less sass than her duet partners. These ladies don’t want you to call them ‘angel’ because they came from no heaven and just want some respect!
In the video we see our three favourite pop stars parade down the hallway of a mansion with black wings on their back. Lana practices her knife throwing skills while Miley owns the boxing ring. Ariana is dressed as an angel (but don’t call her that!) on a balcony. It fills my little pop heart to see these three collaborate on tune. Sure, ‘Don’t Call Me Angel’ ain’t up there with the best work of either of these three ladies, but that does not mean it is not thoroughly enjoyable!
