Single Review: Cher Lloyd – M.I.A

Cher Lloyd makes comeback with new single ‘M.I.A’
Cher Loyd is one of the few X Factor UK alumni that made it into the American charts as well. Back in 2012 she had a worldwide hit with ‘Want U Back’, but her second album Sorry I’m Late (2014) did not bring the same levels of success anywhere. She disappeared for ages, only dropping a single here and there and tried to come back with the quite brilliant ‘None of my Business’ last year, but not even that song could revive things around her. Don’t expect her to give up though! Lloyd is going to try again with the brand new tune ‘M.I.A’.

Lloyd co-wrote the only two and a half minutes long track with Morgan Avenue, Jeremia Jones, Stevie Appleton and Gia Koka. The uptempo banger immediately starts out with its main hook and shows no signs of slowing down after that. The tune mixes elements from pop with hiphop, like most of Lloyd’s earlier work. In the lyrics, she sings about how she wants to missing with her love interest to be able to spend time together without the rest of the world watching. The production swings and the melodies are catchy, but nothing in this tune is as memorable and instant as ‘None of my Business’ and we all know how things ended for that bop…
