Martin Garrix and Dean Lewis join forces on ‘Used To Love’
Martin Garrix already worked with pop stars like Khalid, Dua Lipa, Troye Sivan and Bebe Rexha and he just added another internationally successful vocalist to his impressive list of collaborations. He recorded his new single ‘Used To Love’ with Australian singer-songwriter Dean Lewis, whom you probably have heard of thanks to hit singles ‘Be Alright’ and ‘Waves’. Is ‘Used To Love’ going to be the next hit single for both?
I think it might, because this is tailor made for radio success. Does it bring anything new to the table? Not in the slightest. Does it sound exactly like you would expect a Garrix/Lewis collaboration to sound like? Yes, it does. Is that a problem? Not necessarily. Because is it still a bop? Very much so! Sure, that post chorus drop is getting a bit tiresome these days, but the hooks here are strong and Lewis, who usually brings us emotive songs behind his guitar, sounds just as convincing and honest over an electronic production. Not the most memorable or progressive release, but a tune nonetheless.
