Sam Smith caters to the lonely hearts on Valentine’s Day
Sam Smith finally announced that their third album is called To Die For and will be released on the 1st of May. The record follows up 2017’s The Thrill Of It All and contains previous singles like ‘How Do You Sleep’, ‘I Feel Love’, ‘Fire On Fire’, ‘Dancing With A Stranger’ with Normani and Calvin Harris collaboration ‘Promises’. Today, on Valentine’s Day, Smith releases the title track on which they cater to the lonely hearts. ‘To Die For’ is an atmospheric midtempo song which describes how Smith sees everyone around them fall in love, while the singer is still looking for that person that gives them the feeling they would die for them. The soulful pop tune has a prominent sample of a dialogue of the movie Donnie Darko in which the protagonist says he doesn’t want to be alone. The melodies are compelling and needless to say Smith’s vocal work is outstanding. Another excellent single by the pop star who keeps showing off new sides to their art.

Smith also released a video directed by Grant Singer in which the loneliness described the lyrics is depicted in a striking way. We see a head in a shop window mouth the words to the song while couples pass by being happily in love. Oh, the feels!
