Mabel kicks of new era with latest single ‘Boyfriend’
2019 was a massive year for UK pop star Mabel. The singer had the biggest hit of her career with the absolute bop ‘Don’t Call Me Up’, worked with Tiësto on ‘God Is A Dancer’ and finally released her debut record High Expectations. She is now ready to kick off a brand new era with the single ‘Boyfriend’, produced by Steve Mac. It is another straight up bop with a catchy chorus. Production wise, the tune is partly new ground for her. The beat in the verses is more electronic then we are used to from her and that post-chorus drop is unusual, but starts to ‘make sense’ after a few spins. In the lyrics, Mabel declares she is looking for a boyfriend who is not too sweet and can turn her on, while calling on all the ladies around the world to sing the anthem with her. ‘Boyfriend’ is a sexy pop tune that continues her sound from last year with a little edge. She pulls it off well and it might well be another hit for her!
