Ellie Goulding drops new hiphop inspired tune with rapper blackbear
Ellie Goulding has been keeping us waiting for her fourth album since late 2015 and her (somewhat) recent output leaves us guessing in what direction #EG4 is going. The British pop star experimented with hiphop beats on ‘Close To Me’ and ‘Hate Me’, while she seemed to go back to her roots on the stunning piano ballad ‘Flux’ and ‘River’, the cover of Joni Mitchell’s song that hit number 1 over Christmas. With ‘Worry About Me’, featuring blackbear, she flirts with hiphop once more.

First of all, ‘Worry About Me’ is by no means a bad tune. We know Goulding has an impeccable ear for instantly catchy melodies and they sure are present here. The whole trap-like production and build up just feels a bit bland and does nothing for her voice. It feels like another generic promo single that does not really reflect her as an artist. In response to critique from fans, the singer wrote on Twitter that these songs are just her experimenting for enjoyment and that the album will go back to her pouring her heart out. I don’t want to be the person that is going to compare her every release to Halcyon, one of my favorite albums of all time, but at the same time, ‘Worry About Me’ is simply not even close to Goulding’s best work. Let us hope the album will give us more of the Ellie we saw a glimpse of again on ‘Flux’.
