Rita Ora returns with Lewis Capaldi penned new single
British pop star Rita Ora seems to be kicking off the campaign for her third LP. She dropped her sophomore effort Phoenix back in 2018, which included hits like ‘Anywhere’ and ‘Let You Love Me’, and ever since we have heard her on a couple of collaborations, including ‘Ritual’ with dj TiĆ«sto. Her brand new single ‘How To Be Lonely’ was written by a team including Scottish singer-songwriter Lewis Capaldi, who released hits like ‘Someone You Loved’ and ‘Before You Go’.
It is not the first time that Rita Ora releases a single co-written by one of the most popular singer-songwriters of the moment: Ed Sheeran was one of the writers of her 2017 single ‘Your Song’. Just like ‘Your Song’, ‘How To Be Lonely’ is a proper pop tune first and foremost, with a massive sing-and-clap-along type of chorus. Ora’s vocals sound slightly more rough and less polished than they normally do, which suit the loneliness in the lyrics. Is ‘How To Be Lonely’ one of Rita’s best singles to date? Not really, it is a tad too generic and repetitive to call it that, but it is still a bop that could easily become another large hit for her.
