Ulrikke releases new single ‘What Would You Do For Love?’
Ulrikke should have had her big moment on the Eurovision stage last month, giving Norway another top 10 result. She was supposed to represent her country with the excellent ballad ‘Attention’ (which made the top 3 of A Bit of Pop Music’s ranking of the 2020 entries), but the festival was cancelled because of the Covid-19 outbreak. The Norwegian broadcaster NRK unfortunately decided that they are not inviting Ulrikke back to represent the country next year, as they are hosting another edition of the national final Melodi Grand Prix. Ulrikke herself does not let that ruin her buzz and treats us to her new single ‘What Would You Do For Love?’.
Ulrikke co-wrote the song herself together with Ben Adams (who also produced the tune) and Olve Flakne. ‘What Would You Do For Love?’ is a guitar driven ballad with a big chorus on which Ulrikke once more showcases how powerful her voice is. The track seems to have some nineties R&B influences going on with high pitched backing vocals throwing in some instantly catchy melody lines. In the lyrics, Ulrikke addresses a love affair with someone who does not have her as a priority. “This is hard, but I do confess, that I’m kinda getting used to being second-best”, she declares in the second verse, only to conclude in the chorus that giving that person up is what she will do for love. She also recorded a cute lyric video for the tune!
