Bulgarian Eurovision star VICTORIA drops new single ‘Alright’
2020 was supposed to be VICTORIA’s year. The Bulgarian pop star who had her breakthrough in 2015 when she reached the final stages of X Factor, was the chosen one to represent her country at the Eurovision Song Contest. She shifted her focus towards an international career last year with the single ‘I Wanna Know’ and potential Eurovision winning entry ‘Tears Getting Sober’ (A Bit of Pop Music’s favorite of this year’s contest) could have changed her life for good. As we all know, Eurovision was cancelled this year, but the Bulgarian broadcaster immediately decided to ask VICTORIA back for 2021 as she continues to work on new music. She now releases her new single ‘alright.’.
In an interview with A Bit of Pop Music, VICTORIA (born Victoria Georgieva) explained that ‘alright.’ was written during a writing camp for Eurovision, when she and her co-writers Borislav Milanov, Cornelia Wiebols, Martin Masarov and Sanne Österberg decided to let the pressure go and have some fun. Together they wrote a song about leaving behind the dark days and the inner demons with the reassuring words that everything will be ‘alright’ in the end.
She delivers the message over a contemporary, quite minimal synth pop production with a subtle, yet elevating chorus. The track possesses a captivating magic, somewhat reminiscent of ‘Everything I Wanted’ by Billie Eilish. ‘alright.’ breathes an honest but hopeful vibe with soaring and ethereal touches. The humming harmonies which were also prominent in ‘Tears Getting Sober’ are just as lush here and might well start to become her signature sound. ‘alright.’ once and for all makes clear that VICTORIA will be a force to be reckoned with in Eurovision 2021 too, as her sound has international appeal, undeniable hooks and hit potential. ‘alright.’ would have made a strong Eurovision entry and makes anticipation rise for the album she is planning to drop in the fall as well as her 2021 Eurovision tune!
In the beautifully executed video we see VICTORIA portray the demons and dark past in black, while dancing towards healing in white.
