Billie Eilish and Rosalía release duet for Euphoria soundtrack
It has been clear for quite a while that Billie Eilish and Rosalía recorded a duet. Stories about a collaboration between the two artists had been flying around for ages, which is not surprising considering that Eilish now admitted they first started working on ‘Lo Vas A Olvidar’ at the start of 2019. She explained in an interview with Zane Lowe how Rosalía wanted to do the track in English, while she wanted to go for Spanish instead. The song ended up being mostly in Spanish with some English lyrics, which Eilish wrote with help of her brother (and collaborator) Finneas and their parents. Eilish and Rosalía release the song as part of the soundtrack of series Euphoria.
‘Lo Vas A Olvidar’, co-written by Billie, Rosalía, Pablo Diaz-Reixa and Finneas, who also produced the tune, is a mostly stripped back affair with a haunting atmosphere. The two singers perform the verses over minimal instrumentation, while the swaying chorus has a bit more oomph. With their understated vocal work, their voices almost blend into one another, until the outro, in which Rosalía reaches for her higher register. The track lacks a climax, but the outro is beautifully done and the whole tune is intriguing, delicate and captivating. I keep coming back to it, but somehow it does not fully satisfy me. I applaud that this goes totally against trends and standards for a radio hit, but for me it does not have the same magic some of the other work by both artists has. Having said that, both Billie and Rosalía have set the standards incredibly high for themselves and ‘Lo Vas A Olvidar’ is certainly far from disappointing.
