Album Review: Seinabo Sey – Pretend

Seinabo Sey pretend cover

Attitude and emotions on Seinabo Sey’s soulful debut album
Seinabo Sey came seemingly out of nowhere when her single ‘Younger’ became an international hit. The track gained her rave reviews and recognition in her home country Sweden, but did not really take off over the borders until the hot Norwegian producer Kygo remixed the track (not that it really needed a remix, but it helped her career internationally so why not?). It was number 1 in Norway for weeks and other countries showed some love as well. After the release of the EP’s For Madeleine and For Maudo, dedicated to and named after her parents, it is finally time for her first full length record called Pretend, released on the 23rd of October.

Tove Styrke delivers undeniably strong second record
When Tove Styrke made it to the last rounds of the Swedish version of Idols in 2009, she was just 16 years old. After the show, she took some time to create an album she could be proud of. She delivered a set of electro pop songs with a distinct sound. Now, almost five years later, Styrke has a second album ready, called Kiddo. The young pop star sounds feisty and determined and the songs are punchier and full of personality. What more could a person want than an excellently produced album with twelve undeniable choruses?

Oh Land plays Earth Sick for fans in Amsterdam
Danish pop artist Oh Land came to Amsterdam to play a headlining show for the fourth time in her career. After two shows in Bitterzoet and one at Paradiso, she now played the upstairs room of the famous venue. This time around she is touring to promote her fourth album, called Earth Sick, which was released in November 2014. She financed the recording through Pledge, where people can fund the project and get an album in return. She produced the record in her appartment in Brooklyn and was eager to play the tracks live for her Dutch fans. After 30 minutes of delay as Oh Land had to wait until Jessie J’s gig in the same venue finished, she delivered a show with some minor technical issues, but also with a lot of passion and personality.
