Win tickets to see Lucy Rose in Paradiso, Amsterdam
Lucy Rose is definitely one of the most interesting singer-songwriter talents out there at the moment. The 26-year-old artist from Warwickshire released her debut album Like I Used To in 2012. Her sweet vocals and folky acoustic tracks immediately grabbed the attention, but now she is back with a fuller and even more exciting sound on second album Work It Out, released in July. To promote this release, Lucy Rose will visit the Netherlands in the first week of October. She will perform in the upstairs hall of Paradiso on the 5th of October and A Bit of Pop Music will give away two tickets!
Oh Land plays Earth Sick for fans in Amsterdam
Danish pop artist Oh Land came to Amsterdam to play a headlining show for the fourth time in her career. After two shows in Bitterzoet and one at Paradiso, she now played the upstairs room of the famous venue. This time around she is touring to promote her fourth album, called Earth Sick, which was released in November 2014. She financed the recording through Pledge, where people can fund the project and get an album in return. She produced the record in her appartment in Brooklyn and was eager to play the tracks live for her Dutch fans. After 30 minutes of delay as Oh Land had to wait until Jessie J’s gig in the same venue finished, she delivered a show with some minor technical issues, but also with a lot of passion and personality.

Brandon Flowers plays slick show in Amsterdam
With his band The Killers, Brandon Flowers outgrew playing clubs and usually sells out arenas when touring. Solo however, the singer likes to perform in smaller venues. At the moment he is introducing his second solo record, The Desired Effect, to his European fans and he stopped in Amsterdam to perform in a sold out Paradiso. The show is a mix of new material, hits of his first solo album and also some of the biggest songs by The Killers.
Years & Years perform in sold out Paradiso during first show in Amsterdam
There is no stopping Years & Years at the moment. The British band went from promising new act to worldwide hit sensation in no time and this showed in Amsterdam at their gig. Their concert was moved to a bigger location and sold out quickly. It is quite unusual for a band that doesn’t even have an album out to play a sold out Paradiso. But what is it about Years & Years that attracts so much hype? Their single ‘King’ became a worldwide hit and judging by the crowd in Amsterdam, they already have quite a large die hard following. But did they live up to the high expectations live?
Disappointing performance by inaudible FKA Twigs in Paradiso
FKA Twigs came back to Amsterdam on thursday 5 March for a show in Paradiso. Her last show here was in the reasonably smaller Tolhuistuin and yet she managed to sell out her Paradiso gig, part of the 5 Days Off Festival, as well. The singer is a critic’s darling ever since the release of her debut record LP1 last year, but I have to admit she was not able to meet the high expectations around this perfomance in Amsterdam.
Jessie Ware charms, jokes around and sings her heart out in Paradiso
Jessie Ware’s star is still rising. Around two years ago, the British singer visited Amsterdam for a gig in the smaller ‘oude zaal’ in de Melkweg and now she sold out Paradiso. She released her second record Tough Love late 2014 and is now touring to promote this new material. Just like her musical output, Jessie showed growth as an artist and performer, but she did not lose her charming personality and still loves to joke around with her fans in the front rows.
Paloma Faith gloriously returns to Paradiso after five years
In the United Kingdom, Paloma Faith has been one of the biggest female pop stars over the past few years, but in the Netherlands she did not really have a hit single yet. Still she managed to sell out Paradiso with ease, before traveling to Utrecht for a gig in TivoliVredenburg. The last time she performed in the Netherlands was already five years ago, in 2010, when her debut album was just released. In 2014, her third album A Perfect Contradiction came out and with this record, she is now touring all over Europe.

Selah Sue is in an exciting and thrilling new phase of her career. After launching her very successful self titled debut album in 2011, the singer is planning the release of new material after years of touring and writing. She has got a new single called ‘Alone’ out and an EP will follow next month, but her second studio album will be released in the first months of next year. Still, this record is almost ready so Selah debuted a lot of new material in front of a very eager crowd in Paradiso on tuesday night.
