Song of the Day: Greta Salóme – Row

Greta Salome Row

Greta Salóme strikes back with brand new single ‘Row’
You know what might be the biggest advantage of being an Icelandic pop star? You don’t have to travel far to record a video in the breathtaking landscapes of the country! Recently international pop stars like Justin Bieber, Zara Larsson, AURORA and Kerri Watt travelled to the Nordic country to shoot some visuals for their singles. For Greta Salóme this is basically like playing in her backyard. She represented Iceland at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2016, but surprisingly failed to qualify with her track ‘Hear Them Calling’. Now she moves on with a brand new single and video called ‘Row’.

Maybe it was the performance of ‘Hear Them Calling’ that looked a bit too familiar with winning acts Loreen and Måns Zelmerlöw still in the minds of Europe, causing Greta to fly out in the semi final. At her first participation 2012, when she sang ‘Never Forget’ with Jonsi, she deserved more as well, finishing in 20th position in the final. Luckily for her fans, she is still going strong and launched ‘Row’, a track that does have that folky rhythm that made ‘Hear Them Calling’ so catchy, but this time the production takes another turn. ‘Row’ opens with electronic beats that get company from infectious hand claps throughout the tune. The chorus works with strong vocals and the message is uplifting. This is all taken to a higher level by the gorgeous music video in which Greta runs around, rolls of a hill and bathes in a white dress with the stunning Icelandic landscapes as a backdrop.
