The Ultimate Spice Girls top 10

Spice Girls

The Spice Girls, well actually three of five, had quite the surprise for their fans on the 20th birthday of their first single, ‘Wannabe’. Yes you read that correctly; we are all getting old. Anyways, Emma, Mel B and Geri are ready for a comback, which they teased in a video to thank their fans for 20 years of support. Now they only need to get Mel C and Victoria (this might be the hardest part as she said she will never sing again) back on board. While they are sorting things out, let’s enjoy their 10 best singles!

10. Mama (1997)
If one would make a list of the cheesiest songs ever written, this will definitely end up in top 10, but that is not necessarily a bad thing. This probably touched mothers, sons and daughters all over the world and nobody can really help singing along to that infectious chorus!

09. Holler (2000)
Geri Halliwell left the group before they released their third album, of which ‘Holler’ was the first single. The track produced by Darkchild, saw the British ladies exploring some R&B and this could be considered there most edgy single ever. Definitely not their biggest hit, but a worthy addition to their discography.

08. Too Much (1997)
The Spice Girls tried to incorporate a subtle bluesy rhythm and some jazzy vibes on this one and the result is a perfectly crafted pop ballad. And don’t get me started on that video! Victoria’s cat suit, Mel B’s armed outfit and those vintage scenes with Geri, it’s all completely random, but quite iconic at the same time.

07. Viva Forever (1998)
This was by far one of the best Spice Girls ballads ever released. The bridge towards the chorus is so infectious yet dramatic, and their vocals sound so natural here. The harmonies are on point, Mel C’s ad libs work and they all explore the lower registers of their vocals which fits perfectly. Viva Spice Girls!

06. Stop (1998)
After their first six singles all reached the number 1 spot in the UK, ‘Stop’ was the first one that didn’t, ‘only’ making it to the 2nd spot. That didn’t make it any less of a classic though. I dare you to find anyone born late 80s or early 90s who is not able to sing this insanely catchy chorus in an instant and does not remember that little choreography performed in the video!

05. 2 Become 1 (1996)
The Spice Girls will probably be remembered for their pop umtempos, but they recorded quite a few stunning ballads as well, of which ‘2 Become 1’ is probably the best. That bridge towards the chorus is such a pop moment! That melody is glorious. The smooth and sensual vibe of this tune will still get a lot of people all hot and sentimental about their high school fling.

04. Who Do You Think You Are? (1997)
Who let the trumpets out? This is probably the most swinging, funky and sassy thing the Spice Girls ever released, so what is not to love about ‘Who Do You Think You Are?’?

03. Say You’ll Be There (1996)
This was easily one of the best pop moments of the 90s. This song just delivers hook after hook. The production is outstanding and one can always count on Mel C to belt out some of the most iconic last chorus ad libs one could ever wish fore. And that video… The outfits, the special effects… The 90s didn’t get any better than this.

02. Spice Up Your Life
When the Spice Girls came back with album number 2, hardly a year after the first one was released, everybody already needed some spicing up their lives. You can always count on Mel C, Mel B, Emma, Victoria and Geri for that. ‘Spice Up Your Life’ might be their most bonkers single both lyrically and sonically. Needless to say it is one of their best!

01. Wannabe
Can you believe it is already 20 years since this track came out? It was a huge hit back then and turned into one of the most iconic pop songs of all time. There is no 90s party, gay party or any party for that matter, complete with a bit of ‘Wannabe’. Such an anthem for friendship, girl power and all things awesome basically. This track will never ever get old.

Ok Ginger, Sporty, Baby, Posh and Scary, pay attention! We tell you what we want, what we really, really want! Another reunion please, with some awesome new material if possible. Thank you!
