Single Review: BANKS – Gimme

BANKS returns after two years with new single ‘Gimme’
After staying silent for almost two years, BANKS is back with new music! The American pop artist dropped her sophomore album The Altar back in 2016, with brilliant singles like ‘Fuck With Myself’ and ‘Gemini Feed’. In the year after, she launched the heartbreaking ‘Crowded Places’ and the highly addictive ‘Underdog’. Today she finally returned with the first track of a new era in her career, ‘Gimme’.

Just like her last album cycle, she kicks off this one with an absolute banger! ‘Gimme’, produced by frequent Kanye West collaborator Hudson Mohawke and co-written by BANKS herself and Buddy Ross (who frequently works with Frank Ocean), is a heavily electronic pop track with a seductive rhythm, deep beats and wild vocal effects. It perfectly fits her brand of dark, electronic pop with soul and R&B influences, but in terms of production she definitely steps things up even further. Lyrically, ‘Gimme’ is a confident tune about knowing what you want and doing what you need to do to get it. There was never a time when BANKS did not deliver and this time ain’t it either. ‘Gimme’ sounds massive and gets me all excited for a third BANKS album!

Update: BANKS dropped a stunning video for the track in which she plays with light and puts on a captivating choreography. This is world class!
