Single Review: Kaiser Chiefs – Parachute

Kaiser Chiefs Stay Together

Kaiser Chiefs surprise with synthpop single
Kaiser Chiefs already released five albums in the past ten years, but it is never too late to try something completely new. The British rock band, most famous for their international hit ‘Ruby’, are preparing the release of their sixth record, Stay Together, out on the 7th of October, and they are making some changes. The first single ‘Parachute’ was released today and it sounds completely different from anything they have done before. Not too surprising if you consider the fact that they are working with producer Brian Higgins this time.

Brian Higgins, who is the man behind the Xenomenia team that produced quite a few pop hits, most notably for acts like Girls Aloud and The Wanted, has worked with Kaiser Chiefs on every song of their new album. We get a little taste of what this will sound like on first single ‘Parachute’, which singer Ricky Wilson describes as ‘self-explanatory’ and ‘the first love song they have written since ‘Ruby”. But what is that sound exactly? Well, take a little bit of The Killers’ ‘Human’, ‘Call The Shots’ by Girls Aloud, ‘Love To See You Cry’ by Enrique Iglesias (yes, the ‘you-ou’s and ‘why-hy’s are similar) and some Take That tunes and this is what you get. And is there something wrong with that? Absolutely not! This is smooth, well produced synthpop with a soaring chorus. Who could say no to that?
