Sandra van Nieuwland is back with the release of new single ‘Truth’
Sandra van Nieuwland caused a huge hype when she participated in The Voice of Holland. The Dutch singer’s jazzy take on Usher’s ‘More’ during the auditions made her into one of the most promising new stars of the country and every The Voice cover ended up in the highest regions of the Dutch charts. After the show she proved she could do things on her own as well when the single ‘Hunter’ did a good job on radio and in the Dutch top 40. The album Banging On The Doors of Love was released and now two years later she is back with the brand new single ‘Truth’, another strong pop tune with international appeal.
‘Truth’ will be officially released on Friday, the 16th of October, but she already premiered the track live on radio 538 and that sounded rather good! The track is a poppy uptempo tune that has a slightly similar rhythm and vibe to Emeli Sandé’s worldwide hit ‘Next To Me’. The verses carefully build towards the chorus in which Van Nieuwland uses the higher register of her vocals. It sounds definitely suitable for radio and should launch the promotion of her upcoming third album Breaking New Ground well enough.
Van Nieuwland stated earlier how this record would sound different from Banging On The Doors of Love by being more based on piano and a bit slower in tempo. The first single did not really show this yet, but Van Nieuwland premiered another new song called ‘Training Wheels’ and this one is mostly based on piano and violins and is definitely a shift in sound, which fits her jazzy vocals perfectly.

Sandra van Nieuwland is terug met gloednieuwe single ‘Truth’
Sandra van Nieuwland zorgde voor een ware hype tijdens haar deelname aan The Voice in 2012. Haar versie van Usher’s ‘More’ werd na de audities een grote hit en haar andere covers tijdens de talentenjacht haalden ook de hoogste regionen van de hitlijsten. Na de show liet ze zien dat ze het ook prima alleen aankan toen ze een hit scoorde met de single ‘Hunter’, afkomstig van de plaat Banging On The Doors of Love die in 2013 in de winkels lag. Twee jaar later is ze terug met een gloednieuwe single ‘Truth’, wederom een sterk popliedje met internationale allure.
‘Truth’ komt eigenlijk pas vrijdag 16 oktober officieel uit, maar Van Nieuwland bracht een bezoekje aan de studio van Radio 538 om het lied voor het eerst live ten gehore te brengen en dat klonk goed! Het lied heeft een ietwat vergelijkbaar ritme en vibe als wereldhit ‘Next To Me’ van Emeli Sandé en dat is natuurlijk nooit verkeerd. De spannende coupletten bouwen zorgvuldig op naar het refrein waarin Sandra een hoger stemgeluid laat horen. Het lied is goed geschikt voor de radio en de perfecte manier om de promotie van haar derde album Breaking New Ground, dat in november verschijnt, mee af te trappen.
Van Nieuwland vertelde onlangs dat de plaat wat rustiger zou zijn dan zijn voorganger en vooral gebaseerd zou zijn op piano. Dit is in de single nog niet echt te horen, maar Sandra speelde ook het nieuwe lied ‘Training Wheels’ en dan hoor je gelijk wat ze bedoelt. In de meeslepende song staan piano en viool centraal en deze kalme sound past perfect bij de jazzy vocalen van Van Nieuwland.
