Single Review: Taylor Swift – ME! (Feat. Brendon Urie of Panic! At The Disco)

Taylor Swift returns with Brendon Urie duet ‘ME!’
Taylor Swift is back! The pop star last graced us with new music for the first time since she launched her record Reputation in the last quarter of 2017. On this record she went with a darker image, embracing her snake persona and trying out some more electronic pop and hiphop influences in the productions. She now returns with a brand new single featuring Brendon Urie. His band Panic! At The Disco recently made a big comeback too with the success of their single ‘High Hopes’. They team up on the uplifting pop tune ‘ME!’.

‘ME!’ is a continuation of the more poppy sound of both acts and I am not exaggerating when I describe this as insanely catchy. Swift opens the tune with the main hook before bursting into the first verse with a marching drum band rhythm. The first chorus is quite the moment with its infectious ‘Me-e-e O-o-oh’ repetitions. Urie takes on most of the second verse and from then on they do most of it together. Lyrically, the track is all about confidence in a relationship, stating that your partner will never find someone like you and the other way around. Swift even ‘practices’ spelling with her fans saying there is a ‘me’ in ‘team’ and ‘awesome’. It might be slightly cringy too some, but ‘ME!’ never seems to take itself too seriously either with a playful, uplifting vibe and a campy video to go with it.

The video starts out with a snake turning into a butterfly, hinting at yet another image change. She fights with her ‘lover’ Brendon Urie in French and what follows is a sugary sweet and very colourful display of some choreography and performance scenes. Every scene is carefully thought out and looks like a lot of fun.

Taylor Swift continues on her poppy path, but with a lighter, more playful attitude on her brand new single ‘ME!’.
