As an artist in the music industry, your career often is defined by the choices you make along the way. Some are easy, some are quite hard. When interviewing musicians, I like to challenge them a bit with some tough dilemmas. I name two terms (cities, persons, situations, you name it) and they can only choose one. Of course they have to explain shortly why they choose what they choose. Next up: Tove Styrke, a Swedish pop star that just released her second album, called Kiddo.
Tove Styrke delivers undeniably strong second record
When Tove Styrke made it to the last rounds of the Swedish version of Idols in 2009, she was just 16 years old. After the show, she took some time to create an album she could be proud of. She delivered a set of electro pop songs with a distinct sound. Now, almost five years later, Styrke has a second album ready, called Kiddo. Tove Styrke is one of Sweden’s most exciting pop stars at the moment. She gained fame in her home country when she participated in the local Idol tv show and released an interesting electronic pop album a year later. She left the spotlights for quite a while, but comes back swinging with a brand new album called Kiddo. I spoke to Tove about her time off, how she looks back at the first years of her music career, her evolution as an artist and patriarchy in society.
Tove Styrke introduces new album ‘Kiddo’ in Amsterdam
These are exciting times for Tove Styrke. The Swedish pop star is travelling around Europe to introduce new music from her upcoming second album Kiddo that will be released in the first week of June. Styrke, who rose to fame participating in the Swedish Idol in 2009, launched a self titled album with an electro pop sound in 2010. She followed this up with the Borderline EP in 2014, which functioned as an introduction to her new sound. She treated Bitterzoet in Amsterdam to a lot of exciting new songs.
