Tove Styrke delivers undeniably strong second record
When Tove Styrke made it to the last rounds of the Swedish version of Idols in 2009, she was just 16 years old. After the show, she took some time to create an album she could be proud of. She delivered a set of electro pop songs with a distinct sound. Now, almost five years later, Styrke has a second album ready, called Kiddo. The young pop star sounds feisty and determined and the songs are punchier and full of personality. What more could a person want than an excellently produced album with twelve undeniable choruses?

Aurora from Bergen, Norway, is one of the most exciting new electronic pop artists out there at the moment. The singer-songwriter is only 18 years old and is expected to do great things as her single ‘Runaway’ made waves on the internet. Even Katy Perry said she was a fan. The singer is planning to perform at quite a few festivals this summer and she released the single ‘Running With the Wolves’ just before. The video for this single came out today and that is why it is song of the day at A Bit of Pop Music today.

Oh Land plays Earth Sick for fans in Amsterdam
Danish pop artist Oh Land came to Amsterdam to play a headlining show for the fourth time in her career. After two shows in Bitterzoet and one at Paradiso, she now played the upstairs room of the famous venue. This time around she is touring to promote her fourth album, called Earth Sick, which was released in November 2014. She financed the recording through Pledge, where people can fund the project and get an album in return. She produced the record in her appartment in Brooklyn and was eager to play the tracks live for her Dutch fans. After 30 minutes of delay as Oh Land had to wait until Jessie J’s gig in the same venue finished, she delivered a show with some minor technical issues, but also with a lot of passion and personality.

She gained fame in her home country when she participated in the local Idol tv show and released an interesting electronic pop album a year later. She left the spotlights for quite a while, but comes back swinging with a brand new album called Kiddo. I spoke to Tove about her time off, how she looks back at the first years of her music career, her evolution as an artist and patriarchy in society.
